The Association for Computing Machinery  is an international scientific and educational organization dedicated to advancing the arts, sciences, and applications of information technology. With a world-wide membership ACM is a leading resource for computing professionals and students working in the various fields of Information Technology, and for interpreting the impact of information technology on society. ACM  is the world's oldest and largest educational and scientific computing society. Since 1947 ACM has provided a vital forum for the exchange of information, ideas, and discoveries. Today, ACM serves a membership of computing professionals and students in more than 100 countries in all areas of industry, academia, and government. ACM's 34 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) address the varied needs of today’s IT and computing professionals, including computer graphics, human interfaces, artificial intelligence, data mining, mobile communications, computer education, software engineering, and programming language. Each SIG is organized around specific activities that best serve its practitioner and research-based constituencies. Many SIGs sponsor leading conferences and workshops, produce newsletters and publications, and support email forums for information exchange.
